Often, the local people we support encounter issues caused by unfair practices or regulations, resulting in significant hardship or detriment to their lives. Beyond the advice we give to the individual, we also work to challenge and influence decision-makers, extending our impact to benefit people far beyond those who walk through our doors.
By helping the thousands of people that we do, year on year, we’re able to build a powerful evidence base about the issues that real people face every day. When we combine this with data from other Local Citizens Advice Offices across the country, we’re able to engage with key stakeholders, such as the Government, to achieve real change.

As a network, Citizens Advice campaigned for a number of years about the upfront application fees to access Debt Relief, and how these acted as a barrier to people getting a fresh start.
In March 2024, the Chancellor announced that the £90 Fee for Debt Relief Orders (DROs) would be removed. An outcome achieved thanks to years of research and campaigning from Citizens Advice, which will have a direct positive impact for those in the most dire financial situations.
